Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton played in the team’s recent 10-7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders despite being diagnosed with testicular cancer days earlier. The 31-year-old recorded nine tackles in the victory at Mile High Stadium and underwent surgery the following Friday to remove an early-stage cancerous tumor.
Singleton said on Instagram that his health concerns began about two weeks earlier after a drug test detected elevated levels of the hormone hCG. An ultrasound performed by a urologist last week confirmed the presence of testicular cancer.
Following the operation, Singleton said he is recovering and expects to return to the field “in the coming weeks” while awaiting further test results, adding that he has “a great prognosis.” He acknowledged struggling with whether to share such personal news publicly but felt it was important if it encourages others to monitor their health.
“Early detection and regular screenings save lives and can save loved ones from a lot of grief,” Singleton wrote, urging people to pay attention to their bodies.
