Oura Rings Enhance Cardiovascular Health Features for Users

Oura has launched new health tracking features, Cardio Effort and automatic VO2 Max, for its smart rings to help users optimize fitness.

Oura has just rolled out two innovative features designed to enhance cardiovascular tracking within its well-known smart rings. These enhancements, named Cardio Effort and automatic VO2 Max, aim to empower users by providing valuable insights into how their workout routines are influencing their long-term health.

Understanding Your Cardio Effort

The Cardio Effort feature marks a shift from the traditional metrics that focus solely on distance or calories burned. Instead, it evaluates the intensity of your workouts, measuring just how hard your heart is working. This new approach offers a clearer picture of cardiovascular strain.

The evaluation takes into account both the duration and intensity of each workout, helping create a comprehensive view of your weekly fitness efforts. Users will receive a personalized report that compares their current levels of cardiovascular exertion to a customized baseline.

The Cardio Effort ratings range from Light, indicating a substantially lower strain than usual, to Reaching, which suggests that you're exuding greater effort and may need to take some time to recover. This balanced approach encourages users to listen to their bodies, rather than always pushing for more.

Introducing Automatic VO2 Max

Additionally, Oura has upgraded its VO2 Max tracking with the new automatic VO2 Max feature. Previously known as Cardio Capacity, this metric required users to undergo a six-minute walking test to estimate their maximum oxygen intake. The revamp eliminates this cumbersome process by activating automatically once you complete five GPS-enabled activities, such as walking, running, or hiking.

After activation, users can track their VO2 Max estimates—a critical measurement of aerobic capacity—directly in the Oura app’s My Health Heart Hub. This section includes not only the current VO2 Max reading, but also categorization into low, fair, high, or peak ratings, along with insights into changes over time.

Personalized Feedback for Enhanced Health

The introduction of these two features solidifies Oura's commitment to health and fitness technology. By offering meaningful recommendations based on personal data, users can gain a deeper understanding of their cardiovascular health. They can monitor their aerobic capacity and receive alerts when significant shifts occur, helping them stay informed about their fitness progress.

As Oura continues to evolve its technology, these advanced features can aid users in optimizing their exercise routines. By closely observing the interplay between workouts and cardiovascular health, individuals can make informed decisions to fine-tune their fitness strategies, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable active lifestyle.
