Sonos Improves App with System Health and Volume Presets

Sonos has introduced new features to enhance user experience, including System Health diagnostics and volume presets.

New Features Rolled Out

As anticipation builds for Sonos' AI-enhanced voice assistant expected in Fall 2026, the company is making strides to enhance the user experience through small but impactful app updates. These latest features aim to tackle common frustrations faced by users managing multiple speakers and systems.

Introducing System Health

One of the most significant updates is the addition of the System Health feature. Currently available exclusively for iOS users, this in-app tool provides a comprehensive overview of your Sonos systems. For those with various speakers—whether they are the latest models or older units—this feature simplifies monitoring and troubleshooting.

The System Health page includes essential information such as your network status, the number of speakers connected, and the layout of your rooms. This becomes particularly valuable if you're experiencing connection issues. For example, the feature can help identify a Double Network Address problem, which often arises when introducing a new router to your setup. This situation leads to disconnected speakers and frustrating error messages.

Accessible via the Settings tab under the Help Center, the System Health interface allows users to see potential problem areas at a glance. Unconnected speakers are clearly labeled, and additional metrics include Wi-Fi signal strength and device status, providing a crucial diagnostic tool for any audio configuration.

Volume Control Enhancements

Volume control is another area where Sonos users will benefit from updates. Understanding that precise volume management is crucial, Sonos is rolling out new Volume Presets, allowing users to set specific volume levels for individual speakers when using the app. This feature aims to alleviate situations where adjustments are required based on previous usage—such as avoiding a surprising loud blast from the kitchen speaker when you switch it on.

While the rollout of Volume Presets is still underway, it will be available for both iOS and Android users, helping streamline audio experiences across different setups. For now, users can explore the updated miniplayer, which now includes a swipe-to-skip feature for easy track navigation—allowing smoother transitions without needing to open the main player.

What’s Next for Sonos

In tandem with these updates, the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones have also received firmware enhancements. The new Vocal Guidance feature provides useful audio cues, announcing the battery level and other important information, further enriching the user experience.

As Sonos prepares for the integration of its voice assistant, these foundational updates reflect the company’s commitment to improving its app functionality. The active engagement with user feedback also assures that changes are made in response to community needs.
