The Green Party’s Hannah Spencer has won the Gorton and Denton by-election with 14,980 votes.
She topped Reform UK’s Matt Goodwin, who took 10,578 votes, and Labour’s Angeliki Stogia, on 9,364.
The seat had long been regarded as a Labour stronghold; the by-election was called after Labour MP Andrew Gwynne resigned in January because of ill health.
Gwynne had first been elected in 2005 for the old Denton and Reddish constituency but was suspended from Labour last year after sending offensive WhatsApp messages.
