A cast member from Married at First Sight UK has been arrested on suspicion of rape and has since been bailed, the Metropolitan Police said.
Following the broadcast of the Panorama episode, the Met encouraged “anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual assault” after participating on Married at First Sight UK to contact them.
In a statement to BBC News the Metropolitan Police said: “This relates to an ongoing investigation, being led by the Met Police.” It added: “He has since been bailed while enquiries remain ongoing.”
Billed as a “bold social experiment”, Married at First Sight UK (often shortened to MAFS) sees single people agree to “marry” total strangers when they meet for the first time at staged weddings.
The UK version, now in its tenth season, is one of Channel 4’s biggest shows, with viewing figures often topping three million.
In May, Channel 4 removed all episodes of the series from its streaming service just hours before the Panorama investigation was transmitted.
No decision has yet been made on whether to air the latest series, which has already been filmed. Channel 4 says a review into MAFS UK is due to conclude later this summer and that it will publish “a summary of findings” rather than the full report.
Lawyers for CPL, the independent production company that makes the UK version of the show, have previously described its welfare system as “gold standard” and industry-leading.
